So I overclocked my i5-4690k to 4.4 ghz and everything seems to work fine but when i stress tested it keeps reverting back to 3.5 ghz

I tried disabling the speedstep technology, I disabled the Intel C State, I even lowered the overclock to 4.0 and I kept having the same issue. My temps are around 85c under 100% load

That's still really high for that cooler. What program are you using to stress test?

Also, are you manually offsetting the voltage or did you leave the voltage settings to auto? Auto on motherboards tend to overdo it...a lot...

Yeah, please don't use auto. It overdoes it a lot. I remember on my 2500K, manual is 1.39-1.4v for 4.6GHz, but auto was 1.45-1.46.

Ah, what voltage does the CPU run at when overclocked? Use CPU-Z to find it. In addition to Prime 95, I recommend Intel Burn Test at the Maximum preset. But you might be fine if you just want to game using something like AIDA64. Unless you intend to render a lot, you might not need to use Prime 95 or Intel Burn Test (Both are worst case scenarios for the CPU and run it super hard).

I believe the safe limit was 1.3v for haswell. I know Haswell was kind of tricky to overclock because it has more voltage settings.
