I need help Deciding GPU

Go to solution Solved by Emperor_Piehead,

I would wait for the R9-290(non x) to come out. It is rumored to be faster than the gtx 780 for $450, but just got pushed back to next week.

Mantle to me is like the PhysX for Nvidia where it sounds good, but rare to see in games.

So I have decided to finally build a computer. The only problem is I dont know which GPU i should buy. I am stuck between deciding wether to buy the GTX 780 or the Sapphire R9 280x Toxic. This computer will be for Animation on Maya and 1440p gaming atleast.

-I know that the Toxic can be overclocked to match the 780 and with AMD's new mantle could that make a difference?

--I dont want any Fanboy comments just strait facts why ,and difference would be great.

---Anything else to add that would be great!

-----Thanks

The 280x can't oc that far.

My Pc: Cpu: I7 4790k @ 4,8 Ghz @1,25 volts, Motherboard: Maximus VII Formula, Graphicscard: 2x Titan X @1,4 at stock voltage (soon to be replaced), Ram: 32 gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 Cl 9, SSD: 2x 850 Pro 1 Tb in Raid 0, 2x Samsung 840 Evo 1 tb raid 1,, PSU: Corsair HXi Series 1000W 80+ Platinum, Case: H440. Soon to be watercooled again, maybe, probably, the Titans are too loud.

I say either 780 or 290x. They're both great for 1440p. Maybe wait for a 290x after market card for cooling and also for the bigger frame buffer to handle high res gaming. But 780 is also a good choice for 1440p.

I'd recommend getting a 290x instead if you can. Wait for aftermarket versions.

Otherwise, just get the 780.

A 7970 IN NO WAY will be able to match the performance of a GTX 780.

Also, what he said^
