Also keep in mind you will need a 750 watt or even 850 watt power supply for SLI.

erm no way will he need 850w for 2x 970's .....

550w would be enough, 650w ideal

Hello, I have a question about getting a 970 Ftw SLI configuration and is it worth it?

I'm not think about upgrading my GPU anytime soon because I'm very happy with the performance it offers me, so I thought about getting a second used GPU to boost my performance if it ever lacks or ever goes down what I expect (144hz Monitor) at 1080p, this will cost me around £160+ I feel that a good price for this GPU.

I want to know about your opinions on this and if used GPUs are worth it.

The main thing to consider here is the VRAM. The whole 3.5gb vs 4gb argument aside, games are starting to use a lot more vram slowly but surely. It is all fine now at 1080P (minus a few at ultra settings) however more and more games will become vram hungry and SLI doesn't offer anymore VRAM, it is still 4gb (3.5gb w/e) due to way SLI works.

I just upgraded from 2x 970s @ 1440P and they were great, however a few games (GTAV, Witcher 3) didn't like those ultra textures (this isn't why I upgraded - I bought 1080 cause time to buy house and won't be able to upgrade for a year at least)

It depends on how long you're thinking of keeping that 970. if 18 months + I would add another, however any less I would put that money in a jar and save it towards your new GPU.

Then ofc are the points already covered. I never suffered stuttering, I don't know if that is because I have Gsync or not, so can't comment. However in 18 months, only Just Cause 3 had zero SLI support out of around 60 - 70 games I own. As for heat .... I'm on water lol

Depends on what games you play..

SLI is worth it in some games, soso in some games, and some other games doesn't even support it...

Also many reports that SLI creates stuttering lags in some games...

So....

To be honest if I was you, I would keep a single gtx 970...

But if your main game support SLI, and you feel the need to have more FPS in that games.. go for it.

If you sell your 970 for 160 and dont buy another 970 (320) You are really close to 1070.

But in some games its worth it.

But sometimes its not

970 sli is terrible. 1070 all the way.

That isn't what he asked lol. Also one bad experience doesn't make it terrible same as my good experience doesn't make it perfect :)
