Hi guys,

I got a Lenovo thinkpad laptop. It has 4gb single RAM and the second slot is empty. So I put another 4gb RAM in it. After doing that I started the laptop but it doesnt show the added memory. It running win7 64x.

Any ideas why? Its installed correctly and should work.

Its not exactly the same RAM card. The one inside was green and I put a blue one in it. It fits perfectly though.

Have you tried re-seating the memory module?

Also, check to make sure it is the right type of memory, pay specific detail to things like DDR3 vs. DDR3L (low voltage).

That will likely be the issue right there (not the same module). Unless the capacity, speed, and timings are the same they won't work together

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

I think its not the right RAM for it...so I need one which is exactly the same as the one which is already in it?

Its a Lenovo T450

The Lenovo website only lists the RAM as 'PC3L-12800 DDR3L 1600 MHz' That does tell us that your laptop only supplies 1.35V to the memory slot. Regular 1.5V DDR3 memory modules will either not be recognised, cause instability or keep the laptop from booting at all.

If you can get your hands on the make and model of the existing memory module we may be able to figure out the required timings.
