Hey, so I am quite new so I don't really know that much.

I work at a surveying company and we have a computer that produces 3D maps that are made from stitching photos together.

These are the specs for the current computer.

CPU: i7-6700

GPU: gtx 980

32 gb of ram

500 gb SSD and a 2x2 TB hard drives.

The monitor it uses is Meccer 42 inch 1920 x 180 108p LED

Do you have any recommendations on upgrading it, or even building a second one?
To give you an Idea of what it’s purpose is; an average task would be to process 8000/10000 images that are 24mb each.
Budget isn’t really a problem so long as it’s justified.

thanks a lot :)

you've already got a fairly decent system there. Im not sure if your work is CPU or GPU intensive. maybe just check the workload of each component while producing your 3d map. If any component is at 80-100% then it can get upgraded.

CPU upgrade: i7 6700K < i7 6800K < i7 6900K < i7 6950X

GPU upgrade: GTX 1070 < GTX1080 < SLI GTX980 < SLI GTX1070 < SLI GTX1080

RAM upgrade: 64GB

Hey, thanks a lot, I can't believe I didn't think of checking the workload of both of them, that was my main problem not knowing if was CPU intensive or GPU intensive.

hey no problem. but remember to quote people in posts so they get notifications when you reply. i caught this by chance! Let us know when you get your results :)
