I have a Zotac 1070 Amp Extreme and was looking to paint the backplate to better match my system. I'm only looking to paint the yellow portions and not the entire thing. Naturally, I would have to disassemble the entire card and remove the backplate and cover the area I don't plan on painting with frog tape, but I was wondering if I would have to sand the existing yellow paint before applying a new coat of white paint and if I don't, what effect would it have aesthetically?ZT-P10700B-10P_image5.jpg

Here's a picture so you guys know what I'm talking about

If you don't sand it off and just paint over it, you'd have to put on multiple coats of paint or it would end up having a yellow-ish tint. You'd pile on like a millimeter of paint and it would have a visible edge. And who know if the paint would just peel off afterwards. It does get hot though.

You can paint it but just to provide some options you could also get a piece of vinyl wrap and go over the yellow portion quite easily.

The backplate gets hot during gaming, so it's not just there for aesthetics. would I be able to find vinyl that will withstand the heat?

There's specific paint for metal that gets hot.

The GPU wouldn't get hot enough to cause any issues with the vinyl wrap, and no special paint is needed either.
