Headset microphone issues.

Every single headset I bought had it's microphone fail on me. Ranging rom a cheap-ish japanese headset all the way to Razer Kraken, and the Logitech G430.

My speculation is the lack of a headphone stand, I just drop them on the desk when I finish using them. Is that really the case? Should I just buy a headphone stand?
