Hey LTT, as the title says, I decided i want to build my first pc. However, I don't really know what most of the hardware is capable of, and what i should look for in those parts.

I kind of got an outline of the PC i want here, on PCPartPicker. Some of these things i got to future proof myself, like the bitfenix case, but others i really have no idea what is better. Some of those are the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, as I don't know how the specs fall into place with them. But, if you want to say anything about any part of the build, be my guest, i want to learn everything i can.

  • Budget/Location

so my budget is around $1000, but my list right now up around $1100, and i'd say that's my upper limit. i live in canada, so obviously the pc will be bought in $CDN. i can't really afford to go much higher than $1100 for performance or something, so thats the ceiling.

  • Aim

i'm basically gonna use it for middle tier games, like rocket league or sometimes of that nature. this build will last me into the beginning of university as well, so i'll want power to do coding and such, but i don't need something like 60fps on gtav or anything like that.

I'll be running this on 2 monitors, one of them being in the part list.

  • Peripherals

the peripherals, like the keyboard, mouse, and speakers, i really dont know where to begin there, i just kind of picked the ones that i liked and that didn't seem over the top. if there are any better ones for cheaper, id appreciate if you let me know,

  • Why upgrade

well im upgrading because im writing this on a 6 year old laptop that constantly needs to be plugged in, so it should be apparent :D

so to summarize, i really want to get into the pc world, but im not sure where to start. any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for helping me out

This is a much better build, it has an RX 470 4GB and includes much better hardware. I like the keyboard+mouse. The 24" monitor has a 1ms response time, and looks decent. I included an SSD in the build to speed up the OS and load times for commonly accessed applications.

Can you maybe find a used case for $20 or something?  I think you'd be much, much happier, at least in the short term, with ditching that slow HDD, and installing a proper SSD, a 250gb or a 512gb model.  Using a HDD on such a modern/fast system as you're proposing is like trying to swim in jeans and thick leather shoes.  Sure, you can do it if you really have to, but it won't be very comfortable.

As far as the laptop, can't you just buy a new battery for it?

The rest is pretty cookie-cutter, although the keyboard and mouse are strictly matters of personal preference.  But I'd seriously do whatever you can to get into a SSD and not use a HDD as your main boot device.
