Hi, I have my pc all ordered and everything and while I'm waiting for the last couple parts to come in I need help in the order of which to build it. This is my first build, I kind of know what I'm doing, but not really. Linus and co. need to make a vid tutorial on steps to building a pc, perhaps on techquickie, just outlining the steps to actually assembling it, not the parts to buy and compatibility and such. Anyway, what I've got is a:

Case: Fractal Design Define S (non-windowed)

Ram: Some 16GB corsair vengeance

CPU: 6600K

GPU: ASUS Strix 1070 (higher oc one)

PSU: 850W EVGA 80 Plus Gold (I know it's overkill but it was only 20 bucks more to get an 850 over 650)

CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo

Motherboard: Asus Z170-A

Just using the 2 included case fans for the time being

Storage: 500GB 850 Evo and a 2TB WD Black

OS: Going for a 64 bit Win10 home

What I'm asking for in replies is for someone who's done this before to suggest the first second third etc. things to do/install. Thank you.

Just watch any of their build logs? All PCs are pretty much the same unless you're looking at their more exotic ones like the phase cooling.

Try this:

Basically:

Start with mobo

Install cooler bracket

CPU

Put cooler on

RAM

Mobo into case

Install PSU

Install drives

Install GPU

Plug everything in

Linus has some videos which highlight everything except a couple pointers that I will give you, make sure you don't bend the CPU pins, it's common for new builders but don't worry because as long as you pay very close attention you are fine, essentially line the CPU up with the socket as best as you humanly possibly can.  And make sure it slides in perfectly.  Try not to scratch the motherboard when putting it in, but don't be worried if you do just try not to as much as possible.

Don't be paranoid about building on carpet, just ground yourself often and handle components in the correct and safest manner.  Check everything you put in to make sure it lines up.  Don't take shortcuts, and most importantly be calm and just focus.

I know this probably isn't much help, but if someone told me to calm the fuck down when I built my first computer I would have been a little more calm about it.  And everything went fine.

Also, if you ever feel stuck READ THE FUCKING MANUAL.

Wish you the best of luck dude.

Put mobo in the case, mount scews/standoffs

Put cpu. Can be done before

Put RAM in

Put cooler/heatsink

Mount PSU to the case

Put GPU in

Put all drives to the case

Connect all cables according to motherboard's manual

Connect PCIE cables to GPU and SATA power/data to drives

Plug power to PC

Plug cable to monitor

Boot

Realise there is no POST or you are getting a BSOD

Throw PC again and get a prebuilt and see for errors or ask LTT
