Hi passing on my current pc to my son 2600k + 970 gtx + 27inch monitor 1080p this cpu 2600k served me very well and im looking to get a system that will hold for 4 5 years to come, i have 3 builds dunno what to choose from, looking for a good IPS monitor aswell trying to decide between the 27inch 1440p or 34inch ultrawide i dont plan to change monitor anytime soon i could get a cheap ultrawide at 60hz but dunno if its worth to spend alot of cash and stay at 60hz , i use mainly the computer for MMorps / Fps / tons of windows open and streaming. Atm 6700k is very good in gaming just affraid of picking it up and some dx12 title comes out and it uses more cores, between the 6800k and 5820k dunno witch one is better tbh, anyway any advice is more than wellcome, about OCing i tend to Oc either the 5820k or 6800k to 4.2 or 4.4

6800k is the newer version of the 5820k.

if you are looking for future proofing, the 6800k does make a lot of sense, as games are starting to go more multi-threaded, and even now that CPU will run pretty much any game well.

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

if you can afford, get 6800k one but getting the cheapest option (6700k one) wont gonna hurt you. The 5820k is ok but kinda outdated? (because it has 22nm)

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...

I know you just decided, but the 5820k is still an amazing processor that overclocked well. The performance difference should not be big at all compared to the 6800k. The 5820k will be cheaper and still use ddr4. Pair it with an nvme storage drive and and 1080 with ultrwide 1440p monitor is imho the better choice.

The thing about watercooling is that i think it may require alot of atention and checking up if everything is alright, tbh i never used it and im kinda affraid to use it and have a leak or something, thats why i prefer to invest in a really good air cooler
