one would hope

Hope is all you'll get in Australia. Prices here can be really stupid.

honestly I think you are running the wrong approach here. 3D programs & Video editing / future proofing / don't plan to overclock. hmm.

And Since you mentioned programming I guess you know your way around that ticking box. So, in my mind you should go for a six core on X99, and more RAM. It would fit sort of fit the budget.

If you stick with 4 core switch the board, that one is overkill for any possible use on this planet. Have a look at Z170-A / Z170-Pro Gaming, they will support your components and will keep it way more cost efficient.

CPU cooler is great, ugly as hell of course but the case looks closed so no worries there.

Casewise: Have a look at the Define R5 - pretty similar, a bit bigger, top is closed (can be opened though), so no additional dust nightmare.

The 6700K is overclockable, you said you don't plan to. But then again you said future proofing, by the way that term is a total myth and doesn't exist, sort of. I would stick with the K since it is a bit more future proofy down the line. The DH14 will take it to 4.6 without any issues (running same setup here on a Z170 Pro Gaming)

850 EVO the SSD of choice for the price these days for a long time now. Can't do anything wrong there, would increase its size though. Dual OS, allthough they may be rather small at first, hmm... 500 will do better.

So do you mean something like this for a X99?
https://www.pccasegear.com/products/31920/msi-x99a-sli-plus-motherboard

Wouldn't this mean I'd have to get something different than a i7 6700k?

Also for the pro gamers you mentioned, would this be ok?

Also, what is the difference between the A and the pro on the motherboards? I am still trying to wrap my head around motherboards atm.

From everyone's feedback, this is how I have modified my rig atm

Yes that would mean you should sth. diffrent than the i7 6700K.

That board would be fine and much more reasonable. I'm an Asus fanboy so I would go with one of theirs, but they aren't much of a diffrence. Either would be fine. A and Pro Gaming means as much as nothing, Pro and Gaming indicate flashy LED stuff while A means a more basic version with more or less same specs. It's stupid.

Good modification so far.

+2 cores (though slower single core speed then the 6700K, that thing can't be beaten these days)

Different cooler since the DH14 wouldn't fit on the board (thats what Partpicker said, so I believe it)

Board going along with the 6800K

Double the RAM

Double the SSD on an 960 pro

switched the Case

+600 AU $ compared to your original build, though that could be saved down quite a bit with again, a smaller SSD / less RAM / diffrent cooler

guess around 2300 then. Think about it.
