Hi guys - I recently 'upgraded' from a 660ti x2 SLI to a nice shiny EVGA 1070 FTW  card and.... and well; the performance increase is pretty mediocre at 1080p...

the 1070 seems to be sitting around 50-80% load in a few games, mainly GTA V and the FPS suffers because of this - CPU usage is only around 70% - although some games have it around 90%... such as Mafia III  (this is about the same with both GPU setups...)

Im kinda disappointed with the results so far... is there anything I'm missing out? I did re install all drivers etc when changing cards.   -  Why is the 1070 not loading up even though the temps, power and cpu should not be bottle-necking it at 1080? I have even seen the FPS go up when switching to 1440p (DSR) as the GPU acually loads up to 98-100%!

Ugh, please help me guys!

CPU is an I7 3770k @ 4.0 GHz - although it will OC to 5.2 when I get around to replacing my waterpump and re-watercooling it (on stock cooler right now)

RAM - 16 GB @ 1600 MHz

(See the attached Benchmarks)

cpu bottleneck, which will happen with basically any card at 1080p. Not really much you can do about it

would it be a good idea to run with 1440p and DSR do you think? ..I am planning on upgrading to a 1440p monitor in the new year, hence the 1070

Try overclocking it I've got my GTX 1070 stable at 2050MHz with a +400 on the memory.

should help a bit, but that cpu is still going to bottleneck

Mine is OC'd to 2075 MHz - I have found the load just goes down even more when I up the OC and the FPS stays the same - yet the CPU usage still is pretty low...

wow - would OC'ing it to around 5GHz make much differnce? I would think It would be trading blows with a 6700 at that point?

you're not going to get 5ghz unless you've won the silicon lottery

I did - I ran the CPU at 5.2 for over a year with no issues... until my waterpump died and I've since pulled back to 3.5 with 4.0 boost

aha yea that's why I have held onto so long to be honest  -  recon I'd be back near 6700 levels at that point?

:) I just hope it is the CPU bottnecking then - yet I get the issue even when the load is @ 50..ish percent.. I think all cores were at similar levels too...

This screenshot is from 2014.. just before I got the extra MHz out of it..although it does get toasty - the voltage was.... reasonable...

I'd suggest getting a lager rad for that CPU, possibly the H105/H110 or any other 240/280 dual fan rad. probably get those temp a bit lower.
