So my free nas is installed on an old dell server and today when i inastalled an new drive 3 of the 4 sticks of ram died like the thing will not boot with them in and i tested every one of them with the one that works. I just want to know how much of a hit this might be on performance. It now has 2 gb of ddr2 ecc ram instead of 8

If you are not running deduplication you might be ok. It might not be as fast, but you won't get hit significantly hard.

You might want to get more DDR2 in case the last stick dies.

Im not running any raid arrays as the thing is very old and salvged solution i got for free. Nothing on there is of any critical importance. I am thinkg that whenit dies i might just build a cheap system for this.
