steam link bandwidth question

spiralfuzion

So i bough the link for 20 dollars and it's coming soon. I have around 200mbs down and 10mbs up. I usually get around 30=50 mbs down and 8mbs up when I'm down stairs. Is that enough for 1080p 60fps. I'd also like to see other peoples experience with the box as well. How well does it work and what are things I should be concerned about?

I have close to the same internet and over wifi between 3 floors and a few walls it was alright I guess but I would try and get ethernet to one component either computer to router hub whatever or link to the router or both for the best situation.  Other than that I wouldn't really be concerned about anything other than if something goes wrong with loading the game or whatever you have to go to your PC and fix it, for me that meant running up and down 2 flights of stairs a few times.  But for $20 it's a steal, I got mine for $35 used it for a day or two and put it back in the box and haven't touched it for about 4-5 months.  Just preferred my desk to the couch even though the couch was a million times more comfortable.

Depends on lan set up. It took me a while to figure out, but make sure the host machine is wired.

Mine worked great with the Link wired and my PC on wifi.  I think it needs at least one end wired for a good connection.

In my end, I was getting great speed, but my ping was skyrocketing. ran a wire from the host and had the client wireless and all of my issues went away, smooth 1080/60

Your internet speeds are irrelevent to the use of the steam link you can't stream games from separate networks.

First recomendation is to hard wire to the router, or to your computer you are streaming from, and make sure that the computer also has a hard wired ethernet connection as well, with wifi the latency is terrible, and you may have frequent packet loss and lag.

Don't expect to be playing competitive csgo and such on it there is a little bit of latency 10-15ms for mine with about 200ft of cat5 wire between the two.

You cannot use the host computer when the steam link is connected.

Great for playing co-op games and such on the tv with other people though.

separate networks?  My computer is hardwired and there really isn't a way to run a Ethernet cable downstairs haha. I've seen a lot of people have success with worse internet speeds than me. Hopefully everything works out.

Your internet speeds are from your ISP to you house, not the speed of the internal network connection.

If you can't run a cable through the floor or such, there are powerline ethernet adapters that run ethernet connections through a wall outlet.
