ASUS vg236 weird sound

Hello all,

 

I have recently brought a 2nd hand ASUS VG236 monitor and really enjoy it,

 

however it occasionally makes small or big cracking or popping sounds, not sure if it would be internals or the plastic structure, I ruled out the spring that was on the stand as it is now wall mounted and it still continues to make these sounds. 

 

Any help would be appreciated!

I've heard it a few times on ASUS monitors unfortunately. I've always seen two scorched resistors where the inverter is typically located on the power supply board.

 

Sounds like a short to me. You may be able to pop it open and look for tell tale scorch marks on the PCB.
