I currently have two TPLink gigabit switches for the network I'm planning in my house.  I'm thinking of turning the comcast router into a bridge and getting my own router.

The question I have, with either my own or comcast's router, will I be able to rely on the speed of my switch and not the router? I'm thinking of throwing 10gb into the mix later is why I'm asking.

I went into the FAQ section and don't think this was directly addressed, it said that most router's are also switches.

So in theory if I have the router plugged only into a switch, the only time the router will be involved is a go between from my LAN to the ISP? Or for dhcp needs?  I'm going to set everything static but leave room for dhcp.

So long as it's Modem > Router > Switch, then yes. The switch will take care of most everything, and the router will come into play if you segment your network into multiple subnets along with DHCP, routing to the internet, etc.
