Hey guys,

My friend has recently decided to get a laptop, so i was wondering if you guys can help him decide. He will be mainly using his laptop for schoolwork and also watching movies at night/listening to music. So far, his choices are either the Macbook Pro or the Acer S7 392. What do you guys recommend or if you guys have better options. He would like to spend less money as possible, but would not mind spending the extra cash if it is worth it.

Thanks guys :)

MacBook Pro for facebookmachine = overkill

Same for the Acer S7 392

Any reason it has to be a ultrabook

or even have a i7 CPU?

Does "mainly" mean "mainly" or does it mean "he won´t do anything else"?

If so the Macbook Pro is waaaay overkill...

Tell him to get something like a Macbook Air (the thing i am writing this on) or even something like a Chromebook :) Not really necessary to spend that much money on something which will be used as a "Facebook machine"...

Get a ultrabook with a nice shell and screen and a i5. That would be more than enough power.

Well, for one he likes the portability, although i know there are other laptops that can give you that. Also when i meant mainly studying i didn't mean a facebook machine haha, but he will still have some games such as counterstrike on it. He would bring it over to his friends house and use it to play games or whatever, stuff like that. He has also taken a liking to the acer as well, he likes the way it looks :)

Ultrabook = small formfactor 11 -> 13" believe me its a pain in the ass to game on... (I tried to game on my HP Spectre XT Pro when my desktop broke down)

and second, ultra books have no dedicated graphics cards, another pain in the ass :P

Well then I would go with the Macbook Pro or the Acer Aspire S7 (Linus loves it ^^)

Do you think it will be enough to play like light games, counterstrike isn't that demanding is it? Plus it isn't a dedicated gaming machine, just say for when he brings it over to a friends house.

Yes, i know Linus loves it, so do I. However, which one do you recommended, didn't really help since those are already our two options :P

Ahh damn sorry about that :P Just a bit too tired unfortunately :(

Anyway: I would go with the Macbook Pro if he likes IOS and the S7 if he likes Windows 8 :) For me the choice here comes down to the OS because the other things are kind of balancing themselves out…

Of course its enought to play counterstrike, but the screen is so damn small :)

I'm thinking in these lines:

Asus Zenbook UX32VD

Sony Vaio Pro 13

Or Mac Book Air

So, he doesn't like the Asus Zenbook, and his mum apparently has the Sony, so he would like a different laptop. So once again the Macbook Air vs the Acer again

Well thanks guys, but he just made his mind up. He will be going with the s7. He will be able to get 50% cash back anyways, and plus he really likes the looks of it. :)

good choice, IOS has problems with a lot of games and isn't as widely supported when it comes to a gaming scenario, even if said scenario is light gaming for example counterstrike.
