Question for the scientists

MrChavelo

Hello,

Is it possible  to use N2O cartridges instead of CO2 cartridges for this project? Both substances have the same density so I guess it wouldn't matter.

I'm not a scientist, but all that happens in the video is that all the pressure is released at once. I don't believe it matters much what kind of gas is under pressure, as long as there's enough pressure to release.

Usually, N2O cartridges have a lower pressure than CO2, so I wouldn't imagine so.

Also, N2O is laughing gas, and as such is sometimes even regulated, so it might not be a good idea to buy large amounts of it.

Oh, and it's also much worse for the environment, so there's that.

I think the pressure in one of those little cartridge is about 70 bar.  So theoretically if you had a n2o cartridge with the same mass of gas and 70 bar pressure you'll see similar results.  that being said co2 is dirt cheap, why not use co2?
