Changing Chrome Book Network Settings

Hi

Currently I am trying to connect to my network on my Chromebook. I am fine getting into the network config, (menu with network submask, ip, router, etc) however the option to change the settings, that is normally there, isn't. If someone could tell me why this is happening, or what I am doing wrong, then that would be great. If you have any queries about my problem, then feel free to ask.
