I'm looking into buying a (possibly refurbished) G4, but I read up that there's a bootloop problem on certain devices, how do I know if it's safe or not?
I've heard that serial numbers 505-509 and/or hardware revision 1.0 are the ones afflicted, but some people reported devices with the S/N 511/512 and HW revision 1.1 with said same problem.

Should I be worried with just buying a certified refurbished device from amazon/ebay with this floating around?

What should I look for to be safe?

$180-$210
I was looking at the refurbished note 4s from woot, but the G4's newer, smaller, and has a better camera/

Are you sure it has a better camera? I'm not too sure about that. Samsung usually reigns supreme when it comes to cameras.

I wouldn't worry too much about the size difference, it's very minimal.

The Note gets almost twice the battery life, has a fingerprint sensor, updated to a slightly newer version of Android, and a higher grade of Gorilla Glass.

It's tricky at that price though, there isn't a whole lot out there. If you can squeeze out another $100 you can get an Axon 7, with a free battery bank and set of Beats headphones.

Oh the boot loop yeah it happens because the, (really in short) the cpu gets hot and desotters itself, so the fix that lg did was to download an app that disables 2 of the cores in the CPU. The thing is the 2 cores that it disables are the high performance cores. Honestly it is kinda a hit or a miss with the G4 really.

When it comes to cameras, from all comparisons I see, they trade blows, but the wider field of view and manual controls makes the G4's camera much more appealing to me.

And the fact that most reviewers and tech sites put the g4's camera right up there with the s6 and even saying so much that it even surpasses it in some scenarios really says a bit about it.
Also the G4 has a much better front facing camera, if that means much.

Well, I don't game much at all on my phone, mostly text, message, take pictures, and watch videos, so a hit in performance wouldn't hurt much.

My friend uses his G4 in the similar way you said you would use it, it still has the bootloop issue even after a full motherboard replacement from LG, and also the camera itself on his phone does have a habit of not working, so if you end up with that issue, no matter how good manual control is if the camera doesn't even work.

Quick google search shows it is a pretty common issue.

From everything I'm seeing, it doesn't seem to age well at all.

If I'm getting a phone to last me the long term, I think I'm gonna look elsewhere then.
