Questions about AMP/DAC

Hello! So I wanted to buy a new soundcard and I'm not really sure what to get. My onboard soundcard has some issues like coil whine when I play games (seems like its picking it up from my GPU or something) and the mic volume is just low and people keep complaining in Discord or Teamspeak. Should I just get something like the Creative Soundblaster Z , or an AMP/DAC like the Creative Soundblaster E5? My budget is $100-$130 (for the soundcard/AMP&DAC only) and I will also be purchasing a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 80ohms and a ModMic.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5800X +  GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 12GB + Motherboard: Asus Crosshair VIII Hero

are you sure your soundcard is the one coilwhining? I'd say it's either GPU or PSU, especially when it's in gaming.

You'd need an amp for your mic if it's too quite but because you are getting a new mic aswell, you probably don't need that.


I'd say get the headphones, the mic and then see how it does. If you are sure the soundcard is the one who whines, then get an external thing likethe Fiio E10k or some SMSL.

It is the GPU probably , but I'd just get an external thing. Also I'm not sure if this has to do with anything but , the motherboard screw near the onboard soundcard is not screwed to anything because my case doesn't have one so I skipped it. Does this affect anything?

nah, it shouldn't affect anything.

Well, because you are getting a new mic anyways, i'd try without first and then see what amp you really need?
