i been keeping one eye on hard disk drives does it matter the make or model?

toshiba seems to be the cheapest and can score a 2tb hdd for $80

then there is wd, seagate, WL,

Not by much. I prefer WD, HGST, and Hitachi, but they should all perform about the same. Having said that I would look up benchmarks since platter density and count, controller, and warranty are important points to look at.

if i buy a 10TB drive will it take forever to find info on that hdd?

where is the sweet spot for drive quickness and drive size?

I wouldn't buy a 10TB drive unless you'll be using it. For most of today's drives each platter has a density of 1TB or 2TB (half on top and half on the bottom) with each side having a read/write head. As long as the drive is properly defragmented, performance should be largely unaffected.

its rather ununiformed in pricing where 1tb $60, 2tb $90, 3tb $110, 4tb $160 5tb $230 6tb $250 8tb $335 and 10tb $500

so we are talking about $20-30/tb even $45/tb beyond 1tb to 4tb

For those that you've listed the 3TB is best at 37/TB. making it a better choice over the 4TB at 40/TB.

 

Go to PCPP and look at the HDD's they have. Select how large a storage you're looking for (1-4TB) and sort by Price/GB.

its the jump and yes from 3 to 4tb its a 20 premium added to the 30/tb. i can use some of my older drives, I got four 500gb and a small ssd but spread out on 2 pc's, with 2 not in anything.
