Hey guys/gals, i'm joining the Army and never really built a gaming pc before, and i need help deciding what to build for portability and something that will last me a while. i'm going to be traveling a lot and living in the barracks so i was thinking a mini tower like  Corsair Obsidian 250D or lian li pc-q10 or something that's not so big. price will not be much of a issue, i want to be able to play any up and coming games, i will mostly be playing arma 3 still and rpgs, and such. i just need some help finding out what would be best build. i would like to mod it later too with water pumps and reservoirs and more than likely going to be od green cerakote and make look like a ammo box or something any suggestions on modding too would be awesome with a cool name.

Fair warning: Custom Water Cooling and "portable" don't really go together.

If you're after a portable ammo box case, and offers water cooling options.... then this is THE case for you:

I will make a build and be back in a few minutes...

mini itx is the best choice , it might be pricey but id recommend the corsair 380t case  , and i7 / 1070gtx(in that range)/ 16gb ram (4x4gb)

i wouldnt recommend watercooling at all as u need to maintenance it once a while,  stick with air in that case :)

anyways thats just my opinions

the corsair 380t is one of the most mod friendly cases also btw

If you really want watercooling, you could get AIO coolers, which have everything pre-contained and make transporting a rig much easier. Also the build could be much cheaper, but you wanted "ammo box" so i tried making everything look as military as possible. I could slap something together with a 380T and some water cooling on the CPU/GPU if you wanted to give that a go instead though.

it doesn't need to be ammo box looking i can find ways to make it military looking. but yeah i can see that working! thanks. at this point i want something moddable, and easy enough to travel not so much a mini tower but something that wont be to hard to move around with in pelican case or something. hell if i could make a gaming desk work in barracks i would.

yeah but i dont want a laptop because it limits me, and have bigger risk of theft.

If someone wants to steal your shit they will steal your shit. Theres software for laptops that will take a picture of from the web cam everytime its opened and theres tracking software. The web cam picture taking alone makes it better than a desktop.

Okay portable 380T watercooled CPU+GPU: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/JzLdr7

Your choice of GPU is between these 2:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127942&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

You could do either of these cards.... the FTW card is currently cheaper, but the Seahawk is made by Corsair (and MSI) and also comes with a free copy of Gears of War 4 right now. if you play Gears of War and want to keep the Corsair theme going, then you might consider the Seahawk... but both are good cards, although i think the FTW may be ever so slightly better performing (although the seakhawk is a slightly smaller card, so you may wish to get that card simply to help out with your small form factor, although both should fit just fine). Currently have the Seahawk in there as a placeholder, but feel free to pick either one.

Okay..... watercooling tends to limit your ability to mod things (since you need the radiator space and that can often interfere with custom chassis shapes)... ONE MORE TIME: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/jHgrYr

That build is much cheaper, and designed to be as flexible as possible whilst catering to your requirements. I selected as many small, yet powerful, low profile components as I could in order to accommodate any sort of case or custom case you want, yet still packs enough horsepower to demolish pretty much any game you want to throw at it. You could get an overclockable CPU for about another ~120 bucks if you feel you need it, but most gamers don't for the most part (that build, here:http://pcpartpicker.com/list/YFkH8K)

If you have further questions or advice, lemme know.

we can always play around with the budget too. You haven't really said how much you're looking to spend so I've kind of just been throwing around parts willy nilly based around the sort of budget I use when I make my own computers as well as since you aren't too concerned about price, then you probably are the kind of person who values performance more than his dollars... but your price ranges may be entirely different, and we can totally cater to that if you want. for example we could do an i5 6500, GTX 1060 6GB, and some cheaper secondary components and get you well below 1k if you're just looking for something to be functional and have a decent gaming performance, rather than a high performance power house of a machine. an i5 and 1060 could get you an easy 60 fps in pretty much any game on the market today at any setting you want. So don't go thinking you NEED to be spending this kind of money... I'm just spitballing ideas =)

So you could easily get something like this if you're not looking to spend a ton of money and are only interested in gaming at 60 fps anyway (which is what most modern TV's and monitors commonly display) plus the cost of your choice of case : http://pcpartpicker.com/list/2GCZzM

Now you might wish to spend more on some areas as this computer is fairly barebones as far as features go, but its probably about the best bang for your buck performance PC that you could invest in.

The sky is the limit when you make a custom PC. be as specific as you want about the things that you are looking for and we can try to make it work =)

EDIT: also make sure you quote me when you make your responses otherwise I will not be notified that you have responded =)

Yeah i was screwing around and i made couple wouldnt mind be able to mod case i liked alot was http://pcpartpicker.com/product/xBZ2FT/lian-li-case-pco8wx. just spitballing too because i won't be able to build anything till maybe next summer once i am done with schooling and get put into a unit somewhere. but as long as i cant fit it into a pelican case and put it in a moving truck shouldn't be issue with portability now that i think about it. i generally want a multimedia powerhouse that cant play movies, and games, football and such so when stuck on base for whatever reason plug it in and enjoy down time with my unit or whatever may happen in barracks.

The case is aluminum and also available in silver. Given its construction it is relatively easy to mod.

Depending on the gpu, the case can house a 120mm AIO. There are numerous examples on the net.

well if the build isn't until next summer, then some of these part recommendations are definitely going to change. intel has Kaby lake coming out early 2017 and AMD has a few things on the way between now and then, not to mention all the different cases that will come and go in the meantime haha.

Yeah just trying to get a rough draft of whats to come more then liking be sooner as of right now i have 3 schools i have to go to in army but more may come. i might get a laptop but not likely because no reason to cause if i have down time itll be in barracks, bar, or gym lol and if im playing in barracks ill just build a pc, and i wont be taking my laptop to a bar far more interesting thing to do at a bar.
