Hey guys!

I've got a question, I've got a old motherboard Z97 pc mate with an i5-4460.

I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading to a i7-4790k/i7-4770k or going for a full upgrade to a motherboard with PCI-e 3 instead? And then buy a i5 CPU with hyper threading ?

What would be the best to invest in?

What are your other components and what do you do with your system?

I've got:
GTX 1070

16 GB Ram

600W PSU

BloodFreezer 510 Liquid cooler

I mainly use it for gaming and some other simple stuff, I just feel like compared to my 1070, my CPU doesn't really catch up the places I need it, with some CPU heavy games and still not getting those stable 60 when turned stuff to high.

So, you game at 1080p? Personally, if so I would consider a monitor upgrade first, since 1440p will increase the stress on the GPU only but not the CPU. You can then get a used i7 4790K or something.

1080p is a bit of a waste for a 1070 to be honest.

Alrighty ty :D I never considered that, but ye, my monitor is pretty ass hahah :D Would a wider screen put even more stress to the GPU?

You mean ultrawide?

It depends on the resolution. You have:

  1. 2560*1080 (more GPU load than 1920*1080 but less than 2560*1440
  2. 3440*1440 (more GPU load than 2560*1440 but less than 4K

Well I don't really have the money to upgrade both, so I'm considering going for a ultrawide and then later on a 4790k, it's just that, it's hard to find a used one, most ppl in denmark sells their 4790k with a already built pc, and the CPU doesn't seem to lose that much value when used.

Try looking for the non-k ones.

True, but wouldn't it be best to overclock it? Or doesn't it really make that much a difference a non oced 4790 vs oced one?

Well its better than nothing (plus you can be sure that they didn't overclock the CPU too hard or something).

Hmmmm, a fast search seems like that.... the non k is only around 55 bucks cheaper than a k one, ofc if bought new.

Hmmm....... Now I've been wondering, if I bought an larger inch screen, but still with same 1920x1080 resolution, would that still stress the GPU? Or no difference at all?

Ye well 55 bucks for the non k, would make it at nearly the same price range as a 2560x1080 screen.... :3 gawd more confusion :D

i5s dont have hyperthreading, only i3s and i7s, I suggest you upgrade your monitor first to a 1440p one of a 1080p ultrawide.
