Hello all,

I’m new to the LTT forum so I’m sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. I’m in a bit of a pickle with my computer and I’m kind of desperate because I can’t find an answer to my problem on the Internet.

First, here are all my specs:

-          Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G45

-          CPU: Intel i5-3570k @4.7Ghz, 1.24v

-          RAM: 2x4GB & 2x8GB, 1600Mhz

-          GPU: Asus GTX 1070 STRIX

-          Boot drive: Samsung 750 EVO 250GB

-          Data: 2x Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM

-          PSU: Corsair RM750

-          CPU cooler: AIO – Enermax Liqmax II 120s

-          Case: Thermaltake View 27

-          Case fans: 3x Thermaltake Riing 12 RGB

Okay, now that’s out of the way, here is my problem. This morning I turned my PC on and it went straight into Automatic Recovery Mode (I’m running the latest x64 Windows 10 Pro). After a few retries, I finally managed to boot into Windows so I decided to back up all my data and do a complete reinstall. After my data finished being transferred to my HDD, I turned to computer off and unplugged both hard drives to leave only the SSD in the system. Before I powered the unit back on, I pressed the clear CMOS button to start fresh and do my manual OC once Windows had been installed.

At this point, there is only one drive in the system and the BIOS has been reset to factory defaults. So, I plug my bootable USB into the front I/O and power the system on. I go into the BIOS and boot from the USB key; the installation starts as it would normally but when the PC restarts, the screen remains black and the system doesn’t seem to post at all. So, I forced it to shut down and cleared the CMOS again. After doing that, the system posts and the installation continues… I think you can see where this is going.

Basically, I’m not able to finish the installation of the OS and I can’t get the computer to go past the BIOS. As soon as the PC needs to reboot, it doesn’t post.

Here is where the CPU Phase LED comes in: when I manage to go into the BIOS, only one of the four LED is turned on. The other three keep blinking rapidly. I’m worried my Mobo or CPU are fried because they’re three years old and I’ve overclocked the shit out of the processor (it’s been OC’d at 4.7Ghz for over a year). I’m not too worried about the PSU because it’s only three months old so I doubt it’s already dead.

I really hope someone can tell me what went wrong here, or what component is broken!
Thank you in advance for your help.

EDIT: I managed to finish the Windows install, boot into the OS and use the computer as I normally would. Only, when I use it, the CPU Phase LEDs blink randomly. If I shut the computer down and try to power it on again, it doesn't boot. So if I want to use the PC I have to reset the BIOS each time.

Hey man, i know it's a bit late for a reply or anything But i have the exact same problem atm. Have you been able to solve it?

Hi there. I have solved it, partly.

I flashed the original BIOS and kind of forced it onto the motherboard with a USB key and using the M-Flash option when in the BIOS.

Now the PC boots correctly, as it should, but the CPU phase LEDs are still blinking away. No overclocking anymore, me thinks!
