I would get a more color matching build as you spend that much then let's make it at least aesthetically pleasing. Also costs 40 bucks more so why not?

Overall white to match the case with bit of blue

Do you already have a monitor you're gonna use? If so what resolution and refresh rate?

As for the build, all my changes are cost saving measure or upgrades that cost around the same. Do you really need bluray?

the motherboard is a bit overkill go for a z170-a from asus.

Also if it's just for gaming get i5 6500k and 1080 combo you will benefit more from a better video card.

The 6500k can get an easy 4.5ghz overclock and will be enough to handle games.

Most importantly i STRONGLY suggest getting a ssd of 256GB size for your os. Faster boot times and overall better system performance. Samsung Evo 850 256 would be my pick

This is a nicer build, indeed.

You could also change the optical drive for an LG WH14NS40, it's virtually the same thing.

I would go as low as $1350, and that gets you a 27" 1440p monitor and a computer that's more than well prepared to run games at that resolution.

With that $1300 build, you're not sacrificing any graphics or CPU power (the 6600K is a bit worse than the 6700K in games, but you'll hardly notice if you OC the i5).

You're still getting an SSD and Hard Drive, what you're not getting is a bluray reader (if you need one that's $40 more) and while the PSU is still great it doesn't have fanless operation like the more expensive one. You're also only getting 8GB RAM but that's enough for games today and you can upgrade it with 8 more later.
