Hi I am currently fiddling with my bios settings, and my main question is, if I can overclock my CPU without using Turbo Boost.

Having Turbo Boost on I managed to get my 6700K to 4,8 GHz at a voltage  of 1,43 but that didn't seem that safe. I ran IBT for a few minutes and hit a max temp of 70C. Core voltage peaked at 1,46 but stayed at 1,37 or something like that.

Also I am wondering, what's the max core voltage I should use on my CPU.

Desktop Rig:

CPU: i7-6700K  Cooler: Noctua NH-L9x65  Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE  Memory: Corsair VENGEANCE LED 3200Mhz (2x8GB)

Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z270i  SSD: Samsung 960 EVO 1TB, Samsung PM981 1TB  Case: Louqe Ghost S1

Monitor: Dell Alienware AW3418DW

That voltage is waaaay to high.

My 6700K hit 4.8Ghz with 1.325V

I know, but I haven't tweaked my voltage much. I need some more knowledge on overclocking first, hence this post

The maximum suggested voltage for a 6700K is 1.35 V

The maximum OC you can hit in air is probably about 4.4, AIO 4.6, custom water and i reach 4.8

If you need turorial

Is your core voltage still on Auto? I wouldn't recommend that at such a high overclock. It's a little hard to be sure how high a voltage can still be considered "safe," but most would say 1.4 V is where it starts to get a little uncertain.

what about Turbo Boost, is there a way to oc without using it

nah air is fine on the recommended voltages, it's all about silicon lottery, if you wanna go over 1.4 you may need water but temperature is not an issue imo

Forgot to mention, I have a NZXT Kraken x61

Overclocking with the CPU multiplier is in essence changing the turbo boost's multiplier on Asus boards and is the correct and preferred method to OCing unlocked chips, leave turbo boost on.

Average voltages for an average 6700k are

Here is a video from der8auer with the same MB

My cpu is now at 4,7GHz@1.31V

Gonna do some testing

In that case you win the silicon lottery.

Yeah, was working for about 30 seconds

It's stable now at 4,6 Ghz at 1,34V

You can set the voltage now in Adaptive mode with "+"

Mine 6700k runs @adaptive mode 1.300v +0,030 @4.6ghz on Turbo Mode

It is 1.2V on IDLE.  You can so go "gentle" with your cpu
