Hi,

I recently purchased my first pair of nice headphones (Sennheiser HD 558's) from ebay for a fantastic price, they weren't my first choice but the price was great. Having had them for a couple of months now I must say, while I do like them very much they're just not quite what I was after, though I must say they're pretty comfortable for around 4 hours straight which is a first for a glasses-wearer like me.

What I'd like in a new pair is not necessarily more treble and bass (by that I mean I'm impartial at this point out of ignorance, not that I don't want it), but certainly something punchier and a little more fun to listen to. While I haven't spent hours getting it perfect, I run a software eq that looks a little like this, if this helps:

At the moment I've been thinking about the Beyerdynamics DT 770 or DT 990 pro, if this is a good choice at all, which do you reckon would be better? (also what impedance rating? does it tangibly affect the sound?) Having open back headphones isn't an issue. Also worth noting that driving high impedance headphones won't be a problem. Finally, if it helps, the main kind of music that I listen to is electronic (mostly house), metal (mostly symphonic) and some classical.

My budget is around the ~£120 mark (so around the price the DT 770/990 goes for on amazon when there's not a sale on; if something's a little over, suggest it as black friday is coming up)

I'd be happy to provide any further information if I missed anything important, I'm new to this audio stuff :)

Im sure DT 880 and 990 were on Black Friday amazon sale last year for about £80-90. I bought mine many months later because there isnt a single negative review on them and its decent upgrade from bass heavy gaming headsets.

I personally like my DT 990 pros for clear and crisp sound with reasonable bass level (dont really need more personally) and bit more noticeable treble. All I wanted was better overall sound and I got that. Im happy with the purchase but my expectations were super high (unrealistic really). Voices dont really sound much different when it comes to watching videos but music is definitely a bit different.

It took me good week or two to really get used to the new sound. For example shooting in CSGO sounded like I had two frying pans on my ears (thats when I realised how insanely bass heavy my Siberia V2 were lol ).

Edit: comfort is 9/10 IMO since my ears or head never hurts after wearing them for even all day (im a gamer, I play all day long on weekends), my cups are standard (not the fluffy ones) and headphones are pretty light so you will not notice them much at all.

PS. If you dont like them after several days, return them :)

Be warned, DT series has a lot of fucking treble and it may be jarring coming from something as balanced as the HD558.

This.

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)
