Should I upgrade my i3?

I am upgrading my pc and currently have an Intel Core i3-4170, Will that cpu be capable of running 1440p? Or will it be bottle necking my gtx 1070?

well I'll state the obvious. any i3 will bottle neck. I'm sure a 6600k will do the job but we need a price point for this haha.

An i3 will probably still bottleneck at 1440p in many games with a 1070. When I turned off two cores on my Xeon E3-1231v3 to simulate a 3.8 GHz Haswell i3 it definitely bottlenecked my GTX 970 at 1080p in GTA V, as I was only at 85% gpu usage (with dips into the 65% range) with vsync off. I would also dip into the mid 50s on my framerate while with all four cores on the same area would get 70-80 fps. I would definitely upgrade to at least an i5-4590. Don't go with the i5-4460, it's not a good deal at only $15 or so cheaper since it runs 300 MHz slower than the i5-4590 when under quadcore loads (which any modern AAA game produces).

MASSIVE bottleneck. I'd get a i5 4590 or even a i7 4770 (non-K) if you can find a cheap used one

Consumer-ish grade Xeons are basically i7s without iGPUs. They are a good value used, but can't be OCed.
