Hello all -

I suspect that my OC'd AMD A10 7870k to 4.2ghz is holding back my GTX 960 2GB. It's either that or I'm crazy. RAM speeds are 1600mhz.

Any suggestions on a replacement CPU that would go along nicely with the 960? (Intel preferred, non-k CPU's are welcome)

Use MSI Afterburner and monitor the CPU and GPU usage. When you're playing and the GPU isn't at 100% then there's a bottleneck. I don't think the ram has anything to do with it.

I agree with these 2 go with a i5 6500 or 6600k as it is one of the best Bang for the Buck CPU's

Why do you suspect there is a problem? Isn't your game running smooth? And depending on game total CPU usage does not have to be the problem. Look at single thread performance by rmb the usage graph in taskmanager and set to logical cores.

And don't go locked but unlocked. Even if no OCer, the abilty to do when you run into limits gives you some extra useable lifespan for 2-3 years. Cheaper in the long run. Something from a 6500k or so is nice, but can also go with earlier haswell platform.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.
