My friend is looking for a laptop between $700-800 that can run Indesign and Photoshop.

Got any suggestions?

Thanks:)

A bit more specifics would be nice. power house or ultrabook? Does he need any special ports? Touch screen? Is high storage necessary?

Huh. I was thinking about getting the Asus UX303UA or UX305UA.

The 305 is thinner, but has no touchscreen.

The 303 is heavier and thicker, but has touchscreen.

Those laptops are about the highest quality thin and lights you can get for that price with decent specs. Lenovo makes a lot of good cheaper laptops too, but they are mostly all plastic.

I don't remember. The best thing you can do for this type of thing is go to a BestBuy or Microcenter and look around. See what you like, and get some model names and prices. Then look online for different models wheter they be better or worse or cheaper or more expensive.

just choose one of the 8gb thinkpads here

if he could spend 100-200 dollars more, he could get a quadro

They are probably great laptops, but Lenovos support is worse than a uber driver. you Literally have to have pay after a year or two for support. I really dislike Lenovo. I'd also stay away from laptops with HDDs in them because 2.5" HDDs that companies put in these laptops break easily.

actually i wouldn't say so, i dropped my thinkpad from shoulder height to the point where 5 keys and the trackpad button feel out and the casing cracked - note the laptop was still up and running at that time - it was debugging a program - anyways - i thought i was fucked but the hdd survived without any damage to it after i checked it using the built in microsoft program

you are one of those guys aren't ya?

There is a huge difference between ThinkPad and normal Lenovo. Support way different, build quality is worlds apart. ThinkPads are basically the best built business class laptops you can get, they make a macbook look cheap. Their support is way better than any other support, because it is business support, every hour of down time for a business can cost a shit ton of money.

Also if you think that ThinkPads have had those spyware programs and other shit, think again, because they haven't.

If you think Lenovo support is shit, go call up Acer, Samsung, Razer or Asus.

Also if you even think about calling me for a fanboy because of my profile pic, then you cannot be more wrong. I like their slogan, that is it.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

My brother had one and for some reason (I actually tend to think it punched his laptop) his HDD failed. So he bought another one, and I installed Windows for him. Now his audio is screwed up because they couldn't supply him with proper drivers. (Dolby Digital Avanced Software.). I just don't like Lenovo. I had some dude the other day someone on this forum told me Asus was bad. I didn't understand that, didn't make any sense, Asus is great. for me, Lenovo laptops are great laptops, but very unamusing and boring. I am not a Lenovo expert nor know a whole lot about all of their products, but a good majority of them are plastic. I'm probably just ignorant tho. And I think any $800 laptop can make a mac look like crap xD!

You do know that a solid plastic enclosure, is better than a alu enclosure, right?

I was talking about build quality and no MacBooks are okay built, but a ThinkPad makes it look like a cheap toy. One of the links were to a T series ThinkPad, basically the best Business line up out right now.

Unamusing and boring? WTF? A laptop should not be a circus.

Asus support is useless. I had to explain things multible times to them about their own laptops.

Lol.

You may have a preference, or some scientific reason why plastic is better, but Alu is better IMO.

If you go to a best buy, you will see a lot of laptops. A few will catch your eye. Like Asus's Zenbook 3 is really cool. Macbooks in general. Dell XPS, anything made by Razer. I have seen some really good lenovos, but not as kewl as the other laptops there.

For me, when I say support, I mean their website, and avaibility of software and products and refunds and all that. Not so much customer desk.

that is not a preference, it is a fact. Take a old ThinkPad that is built with a plastic enclosure and then take a macbook, then test how big of a beating each laptop can take.

Alu looks and often feels better, but that doesn't equal build quality.

meh no fanboy battle here. I just get a bit nerdy, since I know a lot about laptops and have fixed a fair amount of laptops.
