I'm looking for a cheap AM2 cpu for a motherboard i have lying around any ideas? i was looking at the athlon x2 270 what are your thoughts?

Athlon 64 x2 4600+ 2.4ghz is a good cpu.

the "Ahlon 64 x2 6000+" is a great CPU (2 cores of 3000mhz)

but, if you have a ASUS mother

you may be "upgrade the bios" to take new "Athlon II x4" of 95w max

in the bad side, is a realy hard to do (sorry)

but the old AM2 CPUs, are not mach to the new AM3 CPUs

Oh and I just remembered its AM3 but should work if you board supports X2 CPU's

OK well to make things clear. Am2 cpus are like 6 7 years old. And second amd 270 is is am3. As far as getting a new am3 cpu most avalible ive seen has been amd 640 x4 3.0ghz. got mine for 59.99 Canadian very cheap. also ive seen 1045t about $100 Canadian readily available other than that. you will have to stick with am3+ cpus which are pretty cheap. If you have am2 motherboard your out of luck unless. you have a branded am2+ motherboard then your a lucky sun of a gun. cause you can still have am3 cpu. since your in uk. it gives ya an idea. if you convert the currency.
