Usually newer generation processors are more power efficient, output less heat, and have a higher IPC (instructions per clock) which means that they can do more "work" at the same clock speed.

Usually there isn't a huge difference between generations, so if you want to compare two from separate generations, I would recommend asking about those specific two.

what do you mean ? I would consider a generation a processor architecture ( i'm enclined to say a whole family , such as bulldozer , piledriver , steamroller etc being in the same gen ).

but in a more commercial aspect , generation could refer to a series of processors , regardless of the architecture ( core i series , with 1rst , 2nd , 3rd etc being named like this despite not being the first from intel , but the first in a particular lineup )

also , a newer generation is usually more powerful and efficient than the last , but all SKU's launch at a similar price to their last gen equivalent when they were new .

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case
