External HDD

Hey guys need your advice before i do anything stupid... I have Toshiba canvio EXternal HDD 500GB ...my plan is remove its HDD then put it on my laptop for quite a while(you know install windows,)for the time being... then return it again or replace it with a bigger size HDD will that be possible????

i`ll wait for your reply before i do anything stupid  hehehehe

I would be careful opening external drives as this may void the drive's warranty, it may feature encryption so you may not be able to use it outside the enclosure, it may feature a soldered USB connection on the drive itself and may simply not work. What is the drive's model? 

I would contact the manufacturer and ask if this can work and if this voids any warranty that the drive may have.
