Hi all, I've been thinking about taking the plunge into custom water cooling, however I don't think I'm (my wallet) is quite ready for such an endeavor. I've recently heard that its possible to buy brackets on the cheap for GPUs which allows you to take off half of the blower, and mount a CPU AIO onto the GPU itself, while leaving the VRMs etc to be cooled by one fan.

This article explains it pretty well: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2977023/components/how-to-liquid-cool-your-gpu-in-20-minutes.html

He mentions however that these brackets are mostly designed for reference style GPUs. So that is problem #1, as this is my GPU. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GAI6478/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The other issue would be if my current AIO doesn't have a bracket available for it. I currently have a Cooler Master Seidon 120v. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16835103195

Since its just a 120 mm radiator, on my CPU currently, the plan was to upgrade to a 240 mm AIO for the CPU, then use this one on my graphics card!

If anyone has experience doing it this way, or a good website for purchasing such brackets I'd appreciate the help! Haven't been able to find what I'm looking for on Newegg, Amazon, or Cooler Master website so thinking it may not exist.

Last question is if there are any drawbacks to this sort of config, I've never seen this solution on any of the videos of the tech Youtuber's videos I follow... is it just uncommon or is there some glaring complication I'm not taking into account? It seems like a really inexpensive way to make the step before full blown custom loops a little more attainable!

Thanks!

Generally CPU AIO's weren't meant for GPU's but some guys decided to machine mountings themselves and sold them to other users who wanted to use screws instead zip ties. Became pretty popular that now the big brands are making adapter brackets for GPU's also.

That said if your AIO doesn't have ready made GPU bracket then you're out of luck with that and you have to make one yourself or use zip ties. I think LTT covered installing aio cooler to GPU with zip ties.
