How many games can you realistically store on a 1tb hard drive?

Andrew Waples

So my storage combination (soon to be purchased pc) is a 120gb SSD for Windows 10 and minor applications (web browser), while the 1tb is for games only. I did look it up, and a user said that he/she has 250 games (goddamn btw) with 72gb, so he/she averages it out to 210 to 270 games. First of is that true? Because on my PS4 original I have a 1tb hard drive with 5 games + streaming services. Which then I have 500ish left for other things. If that is true then I can just get a 500gb hard drive storage. Because that's plenty for me, concerning the fact I delete my games that I don't use anymore. Forgot to mention: games that I would be playing would be Triple A titles, such as Witcher, BF1.

It depends on the size of the games and files.. Indie games can be about 200Mb, where as GTA for example is 60+GB.

It'd be very hard to "realistically" work out how many games it would store.

PC - CPU Ryzen 5 1600 - GPU Power Color Radeon 5700XT- Motherboard Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming - RAM 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB - Storage 525GB Crucial MX300 SSD + 120GB Kingston SSD   PSU Corsair CX750M - Cooling Stock - Case White NZXT S340

Peripherals - Mouse Logitech G502 Wireless - Keyboard Logitech G915 TKL  Headset Razer Kraken Pro V2's - Displays 2x Acer 24" GF246(1080p, 75hz, Freesync) Steering Wheel & Pedals Logitech G29 & Shifter

I am currently storing in excess of 70 games on my 1TB HDD in addition to a shit ton of programs, isos and other stuff. Its nearly full, but not quite. These games include a good mix of large games like AC:SYN, GTA5, THE CREW, FC3, etc. as well as a few smaller games from around 200MB (Cook Serve Delicious) and Space Engineers (Cities Skylines). This is in addition to my massive 18.8 GB ISO collection as well as documents, projects software like Autocad and Visual studio. For me 1 TB was the right choice, especially since I can just pop in another 1 TB or larger drive if i ever need it.

1 TB should be enough for most users and in most cases even gives a bunch of headroom to expand.

1TB is enough.

I have about 160+ games that stretch in size from 60MB to 70GB and I fit them on like 1.5TB

I realize you said they average at 72GB But if you do the math of 72GB * 250 Games you end up with 18000GB total...so idk

As others say, it varies a lot. Newer games are many tens of GB. Older ones might be in MB. My steam+gog+uplay+origin+others combined is about 1.5TB with everything installed, for somewhere between 300-400 games.

Given this, much smaller drives could be used. Personally, I'd still go for 1TB minimum since the cost of one over 500GB is not significant.

Why does it seem like you can store more games on a PC vs a console?

Because a console has only one drive to it that EVERYTHING is stored on, the OS, your other apps, all your save data, EVERYTHING lol
