So simple question, with internal flash I get the photo I want and it shows the flash, but when I use my external Aperlite 700c it's just black, completely like something is out of sync.

I've tried:

New batteries

resetting the settings

changing modes

Nothing works

Also noticed i can't use the manual mode as it does not fire at all same for multi.

Thanks

p.S I am using a 550D

What exposure setting do you use with the external flash, a lot of third party external units (cheap ones) do not support TTL and likely do not support high speed sync either so your shutter speed has to be no faster than the max sync speed supported by the flash unit.

Any other technical setting, you should consult your camera and external flash manual to see how you can get them to work in all supported modes.

If it doesn't support TTL and high speed sync, then you should just stick to no faster than 1/250th of a second.  Consult the camera and flash unit's manuals.

Lucky for me the Flash does support ETTL-II and High-speed sync so luckily it works.

Edit: Need to do further testing using other cannon cameras to find out what is going on.

OK then check the manual to see what other settings you need to change.  If TTL and high speed sync are supported, then you should be able to get a nice exposure.  I'm not familiar with your unit, I am familiar with native Nikon and Canon units.

Maybe the power setting of the flash unit is low, perhaps your exposure setting is not correct, and remember to wait for the flash unit to recycle after each shutter release.  Depending on the power output of the unit, it may take a couple of seconds for a complete recycle.
