Storage device swapping between computers

angrypig7

I may need to swap computer ssd/hdd between computers, but I heard that A full format is required when chipset or CPUs change. Is that so?

And is format required when swapping intel/amd CPUs?

If you are swapping an extra HDD/SSD, and there is no OS on it, or if you have the OS for that computer on a different drive, you only have to make sure the boot order is correct. Otherwise, no format required.

For example, I took the drive from an Intel laptop, and put it as a secondary HDD into my AMD desktop. I started from my origional HDD, and I could acces the laptop drive without any issues.

If your scenario would not work, no one could ever make a back-up from a broken computer.

If you're moving from a complete different chipset you'll need to reinstall windows. If its just a storage drive, then there is no need to format it.
