I have a 980 and my frames have been fine until now. In the more demanding games, the frames drop all of a sudden and require a full restart of my computer only to happen 15 mins into the game again. It says 100F is 99% load on CAM which I can't believe. Why is this just happening now and how do I fix it?

Check temps, when has the GPU been cleaned? How much dust is inside your case?

GPU cleaning??? I haven't heard of cleaning one, hence it must have been a year since I've "cleaned" it. Not much dust at all, I can send a picture.

Every 6 months, I take my entire computer apart, and clean everything. When dust builds up, especialy in heatsinks, they don't work that well anymore. And if your GPU would get a higher temp, it would thermal throttle. Slow down alot, to lower temps and not starting a fire. When you say a reboot helps, but the problem comes back after 15 minutes... Me thinks dust and crap, preventing good cooling.
