Hello.

After a long time of playing games on a machine that does what it can, and changing my graphics card so i could play at somthing else that 600x800, i decided to get myself an entusiast gaming pc. I got very little experience in pc hardware, so i'm looking for help (wich means a build, to be franc).

The idea : Playing most games with hight setting on a 1440p ultrawide monitor.

The budget : about 2.000€ with the monitor.

Some other stuff : I don't need a new hard drive, and you might be able to use my 550W power supply (as you like). For the case, something that fits on a desk is welcomed. And if possible, a back/blue theme would be fantastic.

If you need more info, ask, and I'll gladly answer.

took me a really long time to come up with this... i hope you like it :)

To me, you did pretty quick :o

Do you really think I need a 1080 ? I get the idea to get max fps, and i expected about 60 for the budget i gave you ^^

Also, you can scrap the hard drive, I got a good one.

You will need a 1070 performance range atleast to always max out. If also higher fps screen a 1080 might even be better. So thats where most of the budget will go. It needs a decent CPU with it, so go like a unlocked i5 like the 6500k or 6600k and Z170 mobo that has all stuff you want. Could consider the MSI gaming pro Carbon. Blue is not much to find, but black is, and the board has rgb lights for the blue. Stay unlocked, the OC possibilty is a money saver in the long run, because it can easily add 2-3 years extra usable lifespan.

Recommend a Scythe Fuma as CPU cooler, but if you really want to go with a AIO go with the NZXT Kraken x61 what can also give you blue light.

For RAM would recommend 16GB waht is more then enough for gaming and multitasking overall. Speed of 2133/2400 is good enough, higher is not really needed unless it would only be marginally pricebump for higher speed. More is always nice if the price is not ridiculus.

Your PSU wattage is enough for a system like this so you can run with your current one if it's still good. Otherwise invest in a good PSU, since it can go several builds with you then. Case is very personal, but buying a proper one can go with you for several builds like the PSU.

You already have storage, but a SSD would be nice for a snappier system. Samsung 750 Evo are good budget options. Take something like a 250GB atleast.

Since screen is part of budget you might hit the limit fast with above parts. If it is I would recommend to spend it on your PC first over the screen.

Screen you want a good one, but those cost money. So depending on recommendations from here if you pick one, it might be a good idea to consider it, run your current screen for a while that you can save up for it, so you can spend the money you need for a good solid PC now. If you have a good base to work from, you will enjoy a overall good experience what is worth the wait until it is complete.

The above PC parts are my minimal recommended opininons for a build you want. Don't scimp money on the GPU and CPU, what also means you need a Z170 mobo, RAM and cooler with it. Many regret later on they didn't go unlocked right away.

RAM you could save money by going only 8 GB for now and obviously stay lower speeds.

A good aircooler is still enough for a good OC, so there is no need to go with a AIO (liquid cooled) when looking at performance. The mentioned Fuma is a high end cooler that trades blows with the top Noctua's but at a nicer price.

Using your own PSU is cheapest, and can be swapped later if you want to save money.

Staying with current HDD is cheapest, but a SSD is very usefull, so scimp on that only if above money savers still isn't enough to get under limit.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

I modified Oswin's PartPicker a little (Closer to my own tastes) Basically I traded in the 1080 for a 1070, for a little savings, which gets a nicer case, fast SSD and drops the overpowered PSU for something more reasonable and you still have a little budget to spare, if you wanted to go with the GTX 1080 after all.

Yeah prices in euro's suck, go 1 on 1 from dollars and then you still get the taxes... I laugh at the posts about the Canadian Rupees :)

I would do something like this. You could swap the monitor for something like the Dell 27" 1440p G-Sync instead which would bring the cost down.

Also stick with a Skylake build. No point in going for old tech such as the i7 4790K.

There is no price listed for the gpu, but it should be around 450 Euros.

Thanks for your build, but I have a few questions : Why the 6700K rather than the 6600K that's 100€ cheaper ? and also, since you choose the 1070, why go with a 165hz monitor ?

An i5 can have some bottlenecks with a GTX 1070 or 1080. It won't be as bad at 1440p but you have the budget for an i7 so why not. Also if you do other things like editing or play cpu intensive games then the i7 will be better.

The monitor will still be fine with a GTX 1070. Even a GTX 1080 wouldn't be able to max out 165fps at 1440p on new games. You could swap it out for the Dell 27" 60Hz 1440p G-sync screen if you wanted to save a bit of money though.

The thing is, I don't play competitive FPS, so the only strong point of the 144hz monitors (or above, for that matter) is comfort.

So the question is : should I aim for a solid 60fps, and maybe put more money on the monitor quality/rest of the build, or should I keep the trend you guys seems to follow, hight frames rate.

To add some context, tho, my budget limit isn't stuck at 2K, but you'd need to give me a really good reason to pass it.
