I am looking to get an Intervalometer and Remote Shutter release for my camera, and was wandering whether the intervalometer could double as both, so I don't need to get a separate shutter release.

This is what I have come up with till now: https://www.amazon.co.uk/VILTROX-MC-C3-Intervalometer-Control-Shutter/dp/B0158HHKC0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1478266956&sr=8-2&keywords=eos+50d+intervalometer

there are cheaper ones out there, but I have got viltrox accessories and would prefer going with them over another brand I don't really know.

Can I use this as a remote shutter release as well, or should I be looking at getting a seperate one?

You should be able to use it as a shutter release.  The big button in the middle is the manual shutter release button.  An intervalometer is just an elaborate shutter release that has a timing device that also closes the circuit which triggers the shutter.
