define hardcore gaming in an fps number you want to reach in the most demanding game you want to play. if its every game and just max the fuck out of it idc about money go i7 6700k

It also depends on the resolution youre running at. But between these 2 specific i7's, the difference would be fairly minimal in most gaming scenarios. If the price difference isn't big, go skylake. If the price difference is over $100+, go for the haswell/devils canyon, OR just say fuck it YOLO and ball out for the expensive one if you can.
