Hi there :)

As @crashahotrod suggested, you can clone your old drive onto the new SSD but mind that this operation involves some risks such as the SSD being recognized and treated like a HDD, driver issues and compatibility problems.

My suggestion would be to simply make a fresh install of the OS on the SSD and then connect the old HDD and transfer all data that you need. Doing a fresh install creates a new system registry which requires you to reinstall all your applications and games but you should be able to access everything els on your old HDD. :)

Let me know if you need help with anything!

You should be able to use that SSD for a OS installation. :) Make sure you are installing the OS on the computer that you are going to use it and that there are no other storage drives connected to the computer during the installation procedure. You should be able to reformat the SSD through the installer.

You should be able to find installation instructions on the OS manufacturer's website.

I agree with Capitain.

I tried cloning my HHD to my SSD to put in an old laptop that I want to put an SSD in to revamp it, as it were! Been such a nightmare to get the SSD to boot. The PC was is a hand me down, which I wouldn't be using if my laptop worked, but the motherboard is fried, so Im trying to put the SSD in in another laptop that still works relatively ok but us just slow.

Anyhow, I may just opt to reinstall windows on the SSD and save myself anymore headaches.

Hi :)

I'm sorry to hear that. Let me know if I can assist in some way.

Cloning often results in such issues, especially if the hardware is more pretentious towards the drivers and can't really treat the SSD properly when the Os was installed on a HDD.

Make sure you have copies of your data elsewhere in order to avoid headaches during data recovery.
