SO i have the following problem... I wish to update some of my computer´s components, from which one is adding a sound card to use with the ATH AD700x for gaming, I was looking for the Asus Xonar essence stx, and a couple of gtx770's to replace my old 570´s, the problem is that i don't know if the sound card will fit, the only available space left is the far bottom one and it is kinda tight with the bottom graphics card, so my doubt is if the sound card being there will affect the performance/temps of the gtx 770, the model of the card i want to get is the EVGA gtx 770 4gb FTW ACX cooler edition.

Well my intention for those headphones are purely gaming, I already own a pair of Sennheisers hd650, a pair of Senn HD555 and a tritton true 5.1 gaming headset, I wanted to replace the headset, and I read in MANY forums that the AD700x are very good for positional sound, and that pairing it with that sound card would make them shine, my other option were the Sennheiser pc363D, I already discussed in a different part of this forum whether I should buy a headset or buy an amp for my HD650´s,´they recomended me to go for the 02+odac but i dont want to use them (hd 650's) for my gaming sessions, and that were the ad700x or the senn 363d come in, and why the 290s over the 770s? aren't they going to be about 700$ each?  thanks for the reply

Is another question of dual vs single gpu in this case I would go for 2 770 4gb models

290x, singular, they will be more powerful and only one GPU so no SLI/Crossfire issues. I don't see a point in upgrading to AD700s if you already have a decent pair of headphones

Well I usually prefer the green team, but I've seen the attention these new AMD cards are getting, the problem is that i feel that a sli gtx770 would be more or less the same price +/- 100$, and the preformance of the sli would be greater (at least i think so) and the amount of money i have to spend for another 290x is MUUUCH greater, so if i go sli770 i would receive more power than a single 290x that i would probably wouldn't be able to xfire in the future.

I have to agree on the single card idea. Less potential issues with SLI scaling. Granted SLI isn't that bad, but still, a single AMD card that is powerful might be a better option. Although, honestly a lot of people run SLI and have no issues with it.

That is true, dual 770's would be more performance, as a single 290x I am pretty sure trades blows with the 780. Maybe it is better than 780, but it wouldn't be better than dual 770's in an SLI optimized game.

Well they were intended for gaming only :/ i use the 650's for music more than anything i haven't heard anything related to 650's and gaming, i just want something that is GOOD for gaming (i would say competitively) and i heard those were really good headphones, even the senns 363d so that is why im in such a debate.

Edit: so you think a single 290x will be superior than sli 770s?

Yes, 2 770s will perform around the same as a Titan and a R9-290x is supposedly better

Ill have to consider 290x's price but of the benchmarks I've seen the 290x is VERY similar to the titan in performance, and the 770's are considerably higher in performance than the titan

Also regarding my original doubt about spacing and efficiency hit, if i do go through the route of buying the 770's, then its not worth buying the sound card and risking a performance/temps hit (then buy only the pair of headphones or headset), or would it have no effect on the performance?

According to Anand and Paul from Newegg the R9-290x will be 550$ and if you are going to do a multi GPU solution get 2 R9-280x'/7970s

I have my sound card in between my cooler and gpu and it literally touches both the cooler and gpu. No problem with heat or performance. Just make sure you don't put the sound card in a pcie 2 slot otherwise it will make your cards run and 8x4x which will be very bad for performance.
