Hi guys, today I'm going to go through my new project of making a POS from a Raspberry Pi. There are already a few of these out on the web, but they are different from what I want to do. These will consist of a raspberry pi, a touchscreen to make the selection, a networked thermal printer for the order, a credit card swipe for payment, and a camera to detect tampering, possible a usb port for phone charging. The unit will sit on the table at a restaurant. The customer can sit down, order their food on it, and while they wait, they can play games that are on the pi through the touchscreen. When they are done, if they want, they can pay directly through the machine. They will all be networked to work together, and will submit the order to an sql database hosted on a server, which will format the order, and push it to a thermal printer where it will be made. I might post updates on the project as I go so be on the lookout.

An accessible usb port might be a security issue, and I won't go into detail, as a phone which gets plugged in "just for charging" could execute code on the Pi if the attacker knows what to do.

Anyhow, I like this idea and will be following for updates :D

Just now, SidneySmith said:

Maybe use a usb add on, that is only powered?

anything that won't give more than power is ok, can't suggest anything specific. Maybe power could be part of a different project, where every table has a couple usb ports connected to a power hub
