What are these?

I opened up my old laptop, out of curiosity. Saw lots of interesting stuff. But I'm unable to understand what the two 'things' next to my WLAN card are? And what are those two small wires connected to the WLAN, I've seen them in all laptops, but what do they do?

Those are ports for extra cards. Probably for the higher end laptop models.

WWAN = Wireless Wide Area Network

 

That's where your 4G/LTE modem would be if the device had one. The blue and gray wires are it's antenna so some more expensive skew of the device must come with a WWAN chip preinstalled.

It's for 4G/LTE. Or 3G for that matter. Mobile Internet.

Those wires connected to the WLAN card are the antennae wires, connecting the card to the actual antennae attached to the shell/body of the laptop and away from the bulk of the processing electronics (minimise interference).
