HI there

My house has been running on the same routers for about 5 years now, and they were old to start with.

This is the current configuration:

Main Router:

300M TP Link (TD-W8960N)

Then it goes to a random TP link booster 150 somthing...

Which then leads to me. So far this covers everything in the house, the main router being at one end and the 150 being about 3/4 of the way down (we have very rectangular house!)

Now its also important to add that we have a small cottage about 100m away from the end of the house with the main router, I've taken the "150" booster and put it at the closest point and it ALMOST reaches, if the laptop in the cottage is placed in the right place it works just fine.

Now the problem is this network is so slow we can't even send photo files to the tv etc... However I'm not sure if its effecting total internet speed because I'm in rural New Zealand and the "advertised" speed is only 5mb/s, the main router gets about 3 and the booster seems to split that in half down to 1.5. So I'm not expecting the new setup to DRASTICALLY increase download time but it should be good enough to work with steam streaming to other devices and for streaming pictures and videos to the TV, I'm also hoping it will help with bandwidth when the whole house is on.

So I've got a few ideas on how to do the whole thing but don't know the product that would do it best, here are some of the ideas:

1.

Copy the same setup with new tech, aka new better main router, new better booster and then a better ranged booster for going across to the cottage

2.

New main router, New booster for the end of the house BUT then get a power point router that goes over to the cottage (its on the same power grid so it should work) however that would need to be a wireless hub over there becuase my dad won't want to deal with a cable

3.

A mix of the above two. Also I might get a power point ethernet for myself to get a more stable connection but that's not the point :)

I've heard alot about Asus Routers, and though TP link has been good I'd rather something a bit more serious...

Thanks

Jayden
