So I recently upgraded my GPU to GTX 950 2 GB, but I kept my intel core i7 4771 3.5GHz.

 

When I play CS:GO I get frame drops and the max FPS is 180 on 1920x1080 all low settings

 

What is it wrong?

Update your drivers. And your fps is already over the max I consider needed in FPS games (125).

That can be perfectly normal. But try updating your drivers like LoGiCalDrm said.

CS GO is a cpu based game

After 12 years, Valve kinda forgot how to optimize for their shitty ass engine, so take that as you will.

Haha, I agree! Rather than fixing the game engine. They are adding some not needed features to the games.

Yeah, and this really shows in TF2. I can get into the high 60s and up in my rig but I usually hover in the high 20s-50s for whatever reason on most maps.

Have you tried to cap your fps to 125 or something closer to 90fps and tested if it keeps having similar style dropping (like from 100 to 50).

I will try it, thanks for the suggestion. But there is one thing that doesn't make any sense... All games that are heavy run smoothly on all low settings 1080p. CS:GO is old and not heavy..
