hello. i just got my gigabyte z170x-ultra gaming mobo and a core i7 6700k (along with other stuff for my upgrade). i put everything on outside the case and, to my dismay, i discovered that nothing happened when i turned on the power supply. i tested the PSU with the supplied test...thingy and it works. i've tried it with and without the ram and graphics card and notta. i did use the pre-applied thermal paste that was on the corsair H100i, but cleaned it off with rubbing alcohol and went with arctic silver 5. when i took out the CPU just to see if everything was on the up and up, i discovered that a pin somehow got bent. i used a tiny needle to try and move it back and it looked to be back to normal but its still not doing anything. did i just royally screw myself by attempting to fix the pin or could this just be a dead mobo?

i was afraid of that. i havent told them anything yet but i do have an RMA on it already. what a way to start my FIRST build. :/

Did you press down on the cpu when you put it in the socket? Because youre not supposed to, and that would be the number 1 cause of pin bending

i didn't. i did the "line it up then lower it down" method with the CPU wiggle method at the end.

CPU wiggle? I never wiggled my cpu. Id say avoid that in the future.

"wiggling" the CPU is safe. A little bit of pressure to wiggle it into place won't bend pins. The pin was probably already bent.

yea i went ahead and removed the cpu and checked the pins again. nothing was noticeably bent but i know they are incredibly sensitive. its all packaged back up now and will be back to newegg tomorrow. (the mobo at least)
