So I have been wanting to get a new GPU since it has about 2 years now that I am stuck with the 960 2GB SC. I am switching to the 1060 6GB.

I like having a lot of VRAM for 3D Modeling and enjoying games since I am home constantly. I have a dual monitor setup with the power supply of 400W.

Do you think that will be enough to handle the 1060 along with an i3 @ 3.4GHz. I know my computer can fit it because it is 6.8 long. But I am really bummed out about it not having two DVI ports.

Here is my biggest problem of them all. The 1060 does not have a DVI to VGA for the second port unlike the 960. I have a VGA and a DVI-I or DVI-D can't remember to be honest but one can't be usable so the 2nd monitor is eliminated.

I am really hoping there is a way for dual monitors and currently might replace my TV for a monitor that is 32 or along the lines of that.

While at it, what is a good monitor for some what a cheap price to watch Hulu or Netflix shows on. (Examples of shows I watch, The Flash, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, South Park.)

Thanks for hearing me out!

Well 400W sounds kinda low, but it it's decent PSU it can handle it.

GTX 1060 is not power hungry card.

You can use HDMI to DVI cable or adapter. Or display port to DVI. I have tons of them and they work just fine.

p.s.: You should also watch Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow since they are both connected with The Flash.

Yeah it is a store bought PC, had since 2012 and this bad boi is turning old, the dark days of not having any knowledge of what RAM meant ew. Anyways the PSU is like bolted or glued or just attached to the inner metal frame (Dell Inspiron) Thank you so much for replying!

It sounds like some basic generic PSU that can't acctually handle more than 250W.

I would suggest you to get new PSU. It can be event 450W as long as it's 80+ gold certified and from good brand.

In this case do it like I did.

Upgrade PSU first, so you won't have to worry about your components "health delivery system". Last thing you want is to under power components and break them.

Next step is to upgrade CPU + motherboard.

Later you buy SSD.

And then buy better looking case.

You don't have to upgrade everything at once. At least I never did that. My first build was with intel E4500. Upgraded to E8500 then i5 3350p, i7 4790 and now i7 4790k.

I bought full PC back in 2008 or 2009 and after that I just kept upgrading and changing components every few months when I got spare money :)

Very true but I have to get a new case either way because of it being bolted and not being able to switch it out without completing destroying the case.

400W is enough, but only if its a decent PSU. Many prebuilts come with crap PSUs that cant handle more than 250-300W, is there a name on it? I would otherwise try to replace the PSU unless you want to risk your whole computer (Or a small fire). 450W is enough for a 1060, but I would get a little more (500W) for futeure upgradability.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

I get it. But if you want to use GTX 1060 right now, I would strongly advise you to get PSU first so your components are safe. After that change case, and then every few months when you earn some money, upgrade your system with new components.

Is it possible to grab the motherboard and stuff from it and just switch it?

You mean like buying new case?

Sure it's possible and quite easy acctually.

It takes me about 30-45min to change PC case. If it doesn't have custom water cooling loop ofc. lol

Unplug and unscrew everything and then put it in new case. Simple as that.

1.) Unplug all cables that are connected to PSU (remove 6/8 pin from GPU, remove 24pin from motherboard, remove 4 (+4) or 8pin from motherboard, remove HDD power etc).

2.) Remove PSU from the case

4.) Remove GPU if you have one.

5.) Unplug all cables that are connected to motherboard

6.) unscrew all screws that are holding motherboard

7.) Remove motherboard (RAM and cooler can be still on in 99% of the cases)

8.) Remove storage drivers

That's pretty much it :)

Thats the problem with the PSU maybe, but it is in a like a metal FRAME! with barely any screws near it. I'll have to look at it sometime maybe.

You can also take a picture of it and post it here, so we can see what you are dealing with :)
